MySpace's share of the video-sharing market continues to fall
On the occasion of Microsoft's beta launch of it's video-sharing service Soapbox, traffic watchdog Hitwise has released data showing that MSN, Google and YouTube are gaining viewers while MySpace continues to lose them. (No link yet, the data came via e-mail. Keep an eye on Bill Tancer's Hitwise blog).
According to Hitwise, traffic to MySpace Videos has fallen from 23.76% in July, to 22.99% in August, to 20.86% in the second week of September.
YouTube continues its rebound from a seasonal dip. Hitwise reported that YouTube received 46.64% share of the video search market in July, 45.46% in August, and 46.11% after two weeks in September.
According to another traffic data firm ComScore, YouTube posted a huge page view gain in August, jumping from about 690M to over 1000M page views per month. (Page views are not equivalent to search share, though they're good indicators of each other.)
Over the last 10 weeks, Google has posted the biggest relative gain. In July the search giant posted a 4.97% share. After placing a link on their homepage, Google Video jumped to 10.25% in August. Today they control 11.20% of the market.
