Top Ten List of Top Ten Lists of Top Ten Online Videos
Y'know, lists used to be sacrosanct. They were small, personal accretions of whimsy and want, tidily enumerated. Or, in the event that lists were composed by magazines, they were at least an every-so-often kind of thing. Lists were rare and they carried more weight.
But now the little buggers are everywhere. Every magazine, every web site, every blog. Personally, I don't know which lists to trust. And anyway, they're so antiseptic and utilitarian. The list is reading's equivalent of speed dating.
So in the interest of introducing you to as many charming but ultimately unfulfilling personalities as possible, we hereby present the Top Ten List of Top Ten Lists of Top Ten Online Videos. Huzzah.
- The Associated Press' most significant videos of the year
If by significant you mean obvious, yes. Bonus points to Editor & Publisher for syndicating the article without links to any of the videos. - Break.com's Top Ten Internet Videos of 2006
Amending Sartre: Hell is other people on Break.com. - Entertainment Week's Most Memorable Video Moments of 2006
Mel Gibson, Katie Couric and Kirstie Alley. Snore. - VidFan's Top Ten Viral Videos
Numa Numa, the Star Wars kid, and a few others you probably saw years ago. - StupidVideo's Top Ten Videos of 2006
Not ten videos, but ten videos within a video, narrated by a completely superfluous but very cute narrator. How very VH1. - The Sydney Morning Herald's Top Ten Videos of 2006
If this list were a movie it'd be the feel good movie of the year. Absolutely nothing shocking. Except for that crazy Chinese guy berating a kid on a bus. This is not resolved. - DoCopenhagen's Top 50 Music Videos
So few people go for the 50 video challenge. We salute you. - iFilm's Top Ten Viral Videos of 2006
iFilm remembered some of the lesser known gems, including Connie Chung sings, Leprechaun Hunt and Bank of America's U2 spoof. I'm also a big fan of their top ten commercials. - AOL's Top Videos of 2006
I think there are 50 videos here, but I stopped after watching one because watching videos on AOL's pop-up player is annoying. Especially with pre-roll ads. Fix that. - Pitchfork's 100 Awesome Music Videos
I'm linking to this list solely as proof that Pitchfork actually called something awesome.
I'm still deciding on what my absolute favorite video of 2006 was. Until then, enjoy this video of Connie Chung singing.

Wow, I have no idea that Connie Chung would went this far in her "giant self-parody" (ref her Wikipedia entry). I admit I had way too much fun in a sheepish manner. And the way she felt to the floor. Oh, man. Funny stuff. (smile)

Great round-up. Can we establish another Golden Rule of viral video summary videos? Don't stick the host ON TOP of the viral video. Even if she's attractive like the StupidVideos lady. They're doing this now on WebJunk and it drives me batty. It's like those annoying disk jockeys that would speak through the first 30 seconds of a song.
The host should be an asset. Not a Sagat.
