Children of Men meets the children of Digg and YouTube
As my colleagues at the Risky Biz blog point out, the dystopian film "Children of Men" is the subject of a grassroots campaign (or netroots campaign, depending on your geek quotient) to have it nominated for best picture of the year.
I haven't seen the movie yet, but I'm intrigued by its futuristic fertility plot, which sounds not unlike the plot of Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale, one of my favorite books. The FYC compilation of critical praise and scenes from the movie is very well done (more info on that here). After two days, the video has over 42,000 views on YouTube:

Thanks for the nerd nod, sir.

I hope this wins best movie of the year.
I haven't been following Children of Men, but I love dystopia stories like 1984 so I absolutely have to see this!

The plots of Children of Men and Handmaid's Tale don't really have much in common beyond anchoring the story in the concept of fertility. In tone, philosophy, point of view, and execution they are very, very different.

Oh don't be so persnickety, teacup. Like I said, I haven't seen the movie. But both the movie and Atwood's book both concern a future dystopia ravaged by war and infertility. So I can change the word "plot" to something more pleasing to an English major's sensibilities, but I'd have to go get my 7th grade grammar book, which is currently propping up my feelings of disenchanted exasperation.

I loved both Handmaid's Tale and Children of Men, and they do have a lot in common. I wrote about the parallelism on my personal blog: http://missstickbug.livejournal.com/61212.html
