YouTube videos now appear in Google Video search results
This is the third YouTube post in a row, which surely qualifies me for a set of steak knives or a lobotomy.
YouTube PR sent out a press release this morning saying that YouTube videos now appear in Google Video search results. When a user clicks on a YouTube video on Google Video, they wil be taken to YouTube. The two sites will otherwise remain separate. Google Video results will not appear in YouTube results.
"The two sites will continue to play to their respective strengths," said the release. (On a side note, the YouTube blog is down.)
This change basically swamps Google Video with YouTube content. Google Video is now much more useful (especially if you're searching for silly stuff like "funny animals" or "The Simpsons"). Google is also using this to drive a lot more traffic to YouTube, essentially bolstering its hand (or completely undermining it, depending on perspective) in its negotiations with networks and studios. Expect a big traffic bump for YouTube, a good thing when recent studies show user-generated video growth flattening.
