Yo! Gabba Gabba

AdAge spots "Yo Gabba Gabba!", Nickelodeon's mucho-musical, big people'd puppet show, as an out-of-left-field hit online this year: 4.4M viewers on the tube and 17.8 million streams on the Nick Jr. video player since June 25.

AdAge calls it "Pee-Wee's Playhouse"-esque, though I think a better description is Teletubbies + Power Rangers + MTV. What the show really does well is the Disney trick: combine a youthful and age appropriate context with adult-oriented visual cues, like the Atari-era Pitfall graphics in this clip. I watched this clip a year ago, btw, and I wonder if its popularity over the intervening months had anything to do with the show's adoption by a teenage cohort. Or maybe it's just great watchin when you're high. Toss up.
