Jessica Alba joins online staring contest

Jessicaalba
The most popular video on YouTube today: Jessica Alba staring blankly into a webcam. The stunt, apparently part of a promotion by IBeatYou.com (a dare and challenge video site), is interesting for its rare frankness -- aside from still photography (who wore it better? Jessica Alba or Zac Efron?!) how often do you get to stare into the eyes of a celebrity? Creepier: the stunt's similarity to Magibon, the silently staring faux Japenese girl whose videos are oddly/frustratingly beguiling.

Seems we've crossed a new threshold, with celebrities attaching themselves to online stunts -- Adam Sandler and Lindsay Lohan in a dance contest, for one, John Mayer riffing on 2 Girls 1 Cup for another -- to stay at the cultural fore. Or for a paycheck. Same thing.
