Lisa Kudrow is in session

The new world of online entertainment will get quite a boost from the involvement of former "Friends" star Lisa Kudrow in the upcoming webisode series "Web Therapy," a new addition from L Studio, the most ambitious branded entertainment channel for broadband this side of Bud.TV.
I spoke with Kudrow about her new project in an interview for my story. When I drew a comparison with her new character, wacky psychotherapist Fiona Wallice, and the hopelessly misguided protagonist of her lamentedly short-lived HBO series "The Comeback," she confirmed the connection. "I like doing people who are idiotic," she said. "We wanted to make sure she was just desperately horrible."
Kudrow has been approached plenty in recent years about online opportunities but nothing felt particularly right for her. Lexus was a compelling proposition in large part because they granted her and fellow producer Dan Bucatinksy (who also appears in the series) complete creative freedom.
In coming up with an idea for L Studio, she felt it important not to recycle any made-for-TV ideas. "For a few years now, people were talking about doing Web series and I thought the best thing for it was something truly for the Web, not a sitcom broken into five-minute increments," she said.
Asked whether she felt like a pioneer for trying out the online entertainment space this early, she noted that Will Ferrell and Neil Patrick Harris have beaten her to the punch. "I don’t feel alone out there," she said. "In this buisness, its really nice there are othe options for people who just like to write things and performa dn people can see it or not. there’s not a lot of pressure. It just feels like an experiment." (Andrew Wallenstein)
